This is a land based trip 8 days in total, 6 days hiking, 5 nights in Mountain huts, 2 nights in 15th Centuary luxury farmhouse accommodation with swimming pool. It starts and finishes in Arles sur Tech at your accommodation. Closest Airports, Perpignan, Gerona, Barcelona.
YOU HAVE TO BUY YOUR OWN LUNCHES BUT YOU CAN ORDER THESE THE NIGHT BEFORE FROM EACH ACCOMMODATION IF YOU SO WISH. These will range from between €10-€15 per lunch
Day 1: Arrive in Arles sur Tech, settle in to your accommodation and then meet your guide at 6pm for your welcome greet and chat about the tour before having dinner. DINNER INCLUDED
Day 2: Transfer up to Refuge Batére where we start our first day of hiking Refuge Batére – Refuge St Guillem (Alt 1300mtrs) Distance: 17.3 km Ascent: 946 mtrs Descent: 1119 mtrs Time: 8hr 30 Breakfast/Dinner Inc
Day 3: Refuge St Guillem – Refuge les Conques ( Alt 1587 mtrs) Distance: 21.3 Km Ascent: 1047 mtrs Descent: 723 mtrs Time: 8 hrs Breakfast/Dinner Inc
Day 4: Refuge Les Conques – Refuge Mariailles (Alt 1718 mtrs) Distance: 15.6 Km Ascent: 816 Mtrs Descent: 704 Mtrs Time: 5 hr.30 Breakfast/Dinner Inc
Day 5: Refuge Mariailles – Refuge Les Cortalets (Alt 2150 mtrs) Distance: 15.5 Km Ascent: 1076 Mtrs Descent: 641 Mtrs Time: 6 hr.30 Breakfast/Dinner Inc Today if the weather and conditions are good, instead of circumnavigating Canigou we can climb up the famous Chimney to the summit of Canigou at 2784 mtrs. Day 8: Departure day The trip finishes after breakfast and we say our fond farewells to each other. Breakfast Inc
This trip is self contained and we have to carry all our clothes and kit for the whole trip, so we want to think as light as possible. Because of the Covid-19 situation we must also carry our own sleeping bag as well.
Covid regulations and details will be updated for the 2022 season when they are released by the French government and the mountain refuges.
Kit List:
- 30 – 35 ltr Rucksack
- One pair of clothes to hike in and a spare t-shirt
- Set of clothes for the huts
- Socks, underwear. Enough for 6 days hiking
- Warm layer
- Light duvet Jacket
- Sun kit – Hat, glasses, cream
- Warm hat & Gloves
- Waterproofs – Jacket and trousers
- 2 X 1ltr water bottles or bladder
- Small first aid kit – Blister plasters, anti-inflamatory cream, personal medication etc (The guide will be carrying a comprehensive first aid kit, but it is for group emergencies)
- Small wash kit and towel (Showers are available at most of the huts)
- Extra snacks
- Camera/phone and charging cable (There will not always be the opportunity to charge at the huts so a battery charging pack is advised)
- Sandals etc for river crossings and to wear inside the huts, (not flip flops as they will come off in the river crossings)
- Good light weight hiking boots or sturdy hiking trainers (broken in)
- Trekking poles
- Lightweight sleeping bag
- Money and cash card/ passport and insurance details
We can leave your main bag at the farmhouse where we spend the first and last night so you can keep what you do not want to carry in your bag there. They have a great swimming pool so do not forget to bring your swimmers
